Responsibilities- Operate a school or passenger bus on a regular schedule, transporting students and other passengers.
- Maintain vehicles in a safe, clean condition; perform minor maintenance and inspections.
- Monitor and control student behavior with established procedures; report incidents to school authorities.
- Assist students and passengers with boarding, exiting, and crossing streets safely.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills and transportation for field trips.
- Keep detailed records, file reports, and comply with regulations.
- Assist with driver training when required.
- High‑school graduation or equivalent.
- Completion of training in school bus operations, first aid, and at least forty (40) hours of experience performing bus‑driver duties.
- Previous continuous service as a bus driver with the Carson City School District preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Valid Nevada Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.
- Current standard First Aid/CPR Certificate.
- Original Social Security Card.
- Drive and operate a district bus or passenger vehicle, transporting students and passengers according to schedule.
- Inspect vehicles for safety before operation and report deficiencies.
- Adjust routes as needed to ensure timely arrival and departure.
- Communicate with school authorities and parents regarding student behavior and transit issues.
- Assist students as necessary when boarding or exiting the bus.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance and keep the vehicle clean.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Work in dust, fumes, gas, heat, and cold; frequent reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
- Maintain visual and hearing abilities to read printed materials and communicate effectively.
- Requires occasional standing, walking, and the ability to operate in a school bus environment.
Climate-controlled vehicle setting with temperatures ranging from mild to severe. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels and occasional hazards such as vehicle equipment or chemicals.
Salary Range$20.61 to $26.67 per hour (6 hours per day, 181 days per year) with benefits according to the classified negotiated agreement. Supplemental modifiers: 5% added to hourly rate for Special Education or Substitute Bus Driver; 27.5% for Bus Driver Trainer.
