Position SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Associate Director of Toro CARE, the Pantry Coordinator aids in efforts to further develop, implement, and evaluate initiatives within the Basic Needs program by providing oversight for CSUDH’s Teddy’s Pantry operations. This program/service connects to the Toro CARE suite of programs which aim to reduce the impact of food insecurity on students’ academic success. The Pantry Coordinator ensures the efficient operation of Teddy’s Pantry by supporting a wide range of students with moderately complex basic needs issues.
This includes overseeing day-to-day activities, coordinating and providing lead work direction to volunteers, and leading marketing and communication efforts for Pantry programs and services. The incumbent will build and foster connections across campus and within the community to expand and enhance services provided. This role also will assist in further developing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives related to the food access portions of the Basic Needs Program, including but not limited to the Hot Meal Program, Teddy’s Pantry, and Toro Bites Alerts.
Valid CA Driver License Required.
Key Responsibilities- Supports economic response effort, student advocacy, mandated reporting, informational and referral coordination to on- and off-campus wellness resources.
- Work one-on-one with students who do not have regular access to food to connect them with financial and basic needs resources, student advocacy and mandated reporting.
- Assess student needs based on presented issues and formulate appropriate assistance plans that address, minimize and offer resolutions.
- Identify the need for and assist in developing campus policies for students who are in need of emergency food.
- Assist in developing a set of programs for students and community members and an environment within the pantry and the Toro CARE hub that promotes a sense of belonging and disrupts the growing stigma of food insecurity and the food access issues for the campus.
- Experience:
Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. - Education:
Graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. - Valid CA Driver License
- Within the first 2 weeks of employment the candidate selected must receive a Serv Safe Food Handlers Permit.
- General knowledge of the methods and challenges of organizational and program management.
- Familiarity with research and interview techniques, and with the principles of individual and group behavior.
- Ability to interpret and apply program rules, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to use initiative and sound judgment in planning work assignments and implementing program improvements.
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate data to prepare clear written and verbal reports.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to compose and edit correspondence, reports, and other materials for clarity and accuracy.
