Position Description

The Department of Special Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites highly qualified, motivated, and well‑organized applicants for a pool temporary of part‑time teaching appointments.

The

Position

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term begins mid‑January and ends in mid‑May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Responsibilities

Teaching university coursework specific to best pedagogical practices for students with disabilities, assessment and instructional strategies with an emphasis in reading and/or math;
Supervising student teachers and interns in field experiences across various special education settings for students with mild to moderate disabilities;
Evaluating progress of students in credential programs leading to the preliminary Educational Specialists Credential in Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe, Early Childhood Special Education or the PK‑3 Credential and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in cognate field or related discipline and prior college‑level teaching experience and relevant industry experience.
  • Education Specialists applicants must have P‑12 teaching experience working with students with disabilities.
  • PK‑3 Early Childhood Education Specialists Applicants must have Pk‑3 teaching experience.
  • Applications must have appropriate teaching credential, administrative credential or significant experience in related field.
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Special Education, Early Childhood, Child Development or related discipline and prior college‑level teaching experience and relevant industry experience is required for teaching upper‑division core courses (300‑or 400‑level).
Employment Requirement

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
