The Biology Program partners intensive progressive learning experiences in cell and molecular biology, organismal biology, population and community biology, and environmental science.

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins late August to mid‑December; the Spring term mid‑January to mid‑May. Summer Session teaching may also be available.

Teach assigned lower and upper division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.

Required Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the curriculum or a related discipline.
• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and evidence of strong teaching.
• Experience teaching and working with colleagues and students from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• A master’s degree in Biology or a related discipline, prior college‑level teaching experience, and relevant industry experience.
• A Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline, prior college‑level teaching experience, and relevant industry experience required for teaching upper‑division core courses (300‑ or 400‑level).

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU may rescind conditional offers based on disqualifying information or withheld/falsified data. Failure to complete the background check may affect continued employment of a conditional offer.

CSU is a state entity and prohibits hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside of California.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Classifications:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
