Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.
We are seeking a Medical Equipment Planner to support The Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). In this role, you will work under the Engineering Service Planning Section and the supervision of the VA Supervisory Interior Designer, where you will develop objectives, manage resources, and independently execute assigned equipment planning responsibilities. You will oversee and support major project activations, equipment planning, specification, budgeting, procurement package development, and coordination of delivery and installation to ensure accurate and fully functional equipment integration aligned with VA requirements.
This is contingent upon the award of the contract. Project duration is expected to be one base year plus three option years.
Key Responsibilities:- Independently develop and execute medical equipment planning services for clinical and support spaces including patient care rooms, treatment rooms, waiting areas, conference rooms, lobbies, break rooms, utility rooms, and storage areas.
- Analyze architectural drawings, equipment schedules, and electrical/data plans to identify gaps, overlaps, and coordination issues.
- Conduct existing equipment inventory audits, value cost analyses, and reuse studies with recommendations aligned to VA guidelines.
- Coordinate integration of medical equipment with building systems including audiovisual, security, IT infrastructure, acoustics, and clinical technologies.
- Plan, schedule, document, and coordinate relocation of existing equipment alongside procurement and installation of new equipment.
- Provide technical oversight for medical equipment planning across major construction projects, ensuring accuracy, functionality, and compliance with VA standards.
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, designers, and technical teams including electrical, mechanical, structural, and low-voltage disciplines.
- Interpret architectural plans and ensure compliance with VA Technical Information Library (TIL) standards and equipment specifications.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards including TJC, NFPA, FDA, NRC, and AAMI.
- Develop procurement packages including Statements of Work (SOW), technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, bid sheets, and budgets.
- Manage procurement tracking, financial logs, vendor coordination, and delivery and installation schedules.
- Maintain digital resource libraries including equipment documentation, project correspondence, drawings, and specifications.
- Provide training and support to clinical end users during move-in and activation phases.
- Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, Logistics, and related departments to ensure proper equipment documentation, tagging, and system integration.
- Identify and resolve equipment and design conflicts to prevent construction delays and ensure operational readiness.
- Provide technical expertise and respond to equipment-related inquiries from stakeholders and project teams.
- Collaborate with Facilities Management, IT, Patient Safety, Sterile Processing, Contracting, EMS, and Biomedical teams to develop equipment standards and plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering or any relevant field of study
- Minimum of three years of medical equipment planning experience in a healthcare/hospital construction environment experience .
- Strong knowledge of current medical technologies, systems integration, and vendor developments.
- Ability to write equipment specifications and Statements of Work for medical equipment procurement.
- Ability to review and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) for documentation and tracking.
- AutoCAD and MS Project experience (preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with contractors, vendors, engineers, and government stakeholders.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
