Electrical Technician

The Electrical Technician performs advanced technical work in the maintenance, repair, calibration, and installation of a wide range of electronic equipment. This role supports engineers by distributing and maintaining laboratory test equipment, ensuring efficient operation of the electronics lab, and coordinating repair and calibration of major equipment. Working under general supervision, the technician carries out skilled duties including soldering PCB components, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating equipment in the electronics laboratory, with a focus on high-power electronics products such as three-phase power supplies and motor drives up to approximately 8 kW.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic device board circuitry, including failure investigation down to the component level.
  • Perform hands-on SMT soldering, including replacing microprocessors and other fine-pitch components on PCBAs.
  • Provide manufacturing test support by performing troubleshooting, fault isolation, and implementing corrective actions for electronic products.
  • Create detailed test reports documenting functional and performance testing of electronic products.
  • Conduct engineering and development tests, as well as detailed experimental testing, to collect design data and support product development.
  • Support product testing during integration, functional, design verification, performance, and qualification testing phases.
  • Install components, units, and printed circuit boards in accordance with specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Fabricate parts, cables, wire harnesses, and test fixtures required for test setups and test boxes, and maintain all related equipment, passive loads, and test fixtures.
  • Maintain and write work procedures and all related documentation for each task performed to ensure repeatability and quality.
  • Customize units and make adjustments or repairs according to written specifications and engineering change instructions.
  • Order and maintain inventory of replacement parts for electronic test equipment, including tracking warranties, service, and repair records.
  • Work with vendors to obtain pricing and availability of needed parts and perform quality checks on newly delivered equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate records on equipment repairs, warranties, schematics, and test configurations.
  • Create ADCNs (assembly deviation/change notices) for minor electronics assembly rework instructions in accordance with IPC standards.
  • Create engineering test and status reports to communicate progress, issues, and test outcomes to the broader engineering team.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers as needed to support troubleshooting of electronics assemblies and test setups.
  • Build and set up test boxes (breakout boxes) used as hardware test stations for PCBAs, controllers, finished products, and other electrical devices.
  • Design and assemble test boxes by creating cable and wire harnesses, making wire connections, installing indicator buttons, building basic instrument control panels, drilling mounting holes, and integrating appropriate connectors.
  • Work with high-power electronics equipment, including three-phase power supplies and motor drives, ensuring safe operation and accurate calibration.
  • Support ongoing improvements in lab efficiency, equipment reliability, and test coverage through collaboration with hardware, software, test, and design engineers.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic device board circuitry down to the component level.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SMT soldering and desoldering, including reworking microprocessors and other fine-pitch components on PCBAs.
  • Demonstrated capability in PCB and PCBA rework, following IPC standards and best practices.
  • Experience in providing manufacturing test support, including fault isolation and corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to create clear and detailed test reports for functional and performance testing of electronic products.
  • Experience conducting engineering and development tests, as well as detailed experimental testing to gather design data.
  • Hands-on skills in installing components, units, and printed circuit boards according to specifications.
  • Ability to fabricate parts, cables, wire harnesses, and test fixtures for test setups and test boxes.

This is a Contract position based out of Carson, CA. The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
