Senior Electrical Technician

The Senior Electrical Technician performs advanced technical work in the maintenance, repair, calibration, and installation of a wide range of electronic equipment. This role supports engineers by distributing and maintaining laboratory test equipment, ensuring the efficient operation of the electronics laboratory, and arranging repair and calibration for major equipment. Working under general supervision, the technician carries out skilled duties including soldering PCB components, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing high-power electronic products up to 8 kW such as three-phase power supplies and motor drives, while supporting product development and manufacturing test activities.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic device board circuitry, performing failure investigations down to the component level.
  • Perform hands-on SMT parts soldering, including replacing microprocessors and other fine-pitch components on PCBAs.
  • Provide manufacturing test support by troubleshooting issues, isolating faults, and implementing corrective actions for electronic products.
  • Create detailed test reports documenting functional and performance testing of electronics products.
  • Conduct engineering and development tests, including detailed experimental testing, to collect design and performance data.
  • Support product testing during integration, functional, design verification, performance, and qualification testing phases.
  • Install components, units, and printed circuit boards in accordance with specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Fabricate parts, cables, wire harnesses, and test fixtures, and maintain all work-related equipment including passive loads and test fixtures.
  • Maintain and write work procedures and related documentation for tasks performed to ensure repeatability and quality.
  • Customize units and make adjustments or repairs according to written specifications and engineering change instructions.
  • Order and maintain inventory of replacement parts for electronic test equipment, including managing warranties, service, and repair records.
  • Work with vendors to obtain pricing and availability of needed parts and perform quality checks on newly delivered equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain records on equipment repairs, warranties, schematics, and other technical documentation.
  • Create ADCNs for minor electronics assembly rework instructions in accordance with IPC standards.
  • Prepare engineering test reports and status updates to communicate progress and issues to the broader team.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers as needed to support troubleshooting of electronics assemblies and test setups.
  • Build and set up test boxes (breakout boxes) used as testing stations for electronic hardware products, including PCBAs, controllers, and related electrical products.
  • Design and assemble test boxes by creating cable and wire harnesses, making wire connections, installing indicator buttons, installing basic instrument control panels, drilling mounting holes, and integrating power electronics and connections.
  • Perform calibration and functional verification of test boxes and associated test setups to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
  • Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes, test setups, and documentation to enhance efficiency and product quality.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic device board circuitry down to the component level.
  • Hands-on experience in SMT soldering and desoldering, including reworking microprocessors and other complex PCB components.
  • Strong background in PCB and PCBA rework, including component replacement and repair in accordance with industry standards.
  • Demonstrated capability to build and set up test boxes (breakout boxes) for hardware testing of PCBAs, controllers, and other electronic products.
  • Ability to design and assemble cable and wire harnesses, including proper wire connections and routing within test fixtures.
  • Experience installing indicator buttons, basic instrument control panels, connectors, and power electronics into custom test boxes.
