Job Description
Mission of the Michigan Offender Success Model is to reduce crime by implementing a seamless plan of services, supervision, and opportunities designed with each offender and delivered through state and regional collaboration. The goal is to obtain employment and self‑sufficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate evidence‑based programming in a correctional setting and become a content expert in cognitive prisoner programming (e.g., Violence Prevention, Batterer Intervention, Thinking for a Change).
- Attend necessary trainings to master facilitation techniques.
- Coordinate and implement all training curricula to build prisoner skills and knowledge.
- Identify risks and needs of each prisoner to reduce crime and recidivism while promoting intrinsic change.
- Incorporate Collaborative Case Management and Motivational Interviewing techniques into all interactions.
- Hold offenders accountable using evidence‑based practices and a strength‑based approach.
- Provide offenders with opportunities that lead to long‑term self‑sufficiency and an end to criminal behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or comparable experience: criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling, guidance, child development, physical education, sociology, educational psychology, family relations, human services, or theology.
- Corrections Program Coordinator 9: No specific type or amount required.
- Corrections Program Coordinator 10: One year of professional experience providing services to inmates, parolees, or probationers equivalent to a Corrections Program Coordinator 9, Prison Counselor 9, or Parole/Probation Officer 9.
- Corrections Program Coordinator P11: Two years of professional experience providing services to inmates, parolees, or probationers, including one year equivalent to a Corrections Program Coordinator 10, Prison Counselor 10, or Parole/Probation Officer 10.
- Alternate Education and Experience – Corrections Program Coordinator 9: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major and one year of Department of Corrections experience.
- Other Levels: High school completion plus years of experience in various assistant or supervisory roles as described in the original posting.
- Employees must meet high ethical standards; all appointing authorities are obligated to enforce these standards.
- All employees are required to report any possible conflict of interest.
- The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
- Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence, parole, or probation.
- Some positions may require maintaining Master Trainer certifications in designated evidence‑based and prison‑based reentry programs.
- Positions are subject to pre‑appointment and random drug and alcohol testing.
