Location: Carson, CA
Schedule: Monday – Friday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm; as assigned, may include days, nights, weekends and holidays
Status: Non-exempt (hourly)
Position Summary
The Custodian / Janitorial Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of assigned County facilities. This role ensures that offices, lobbies, restrooms, exam rooms, lunch areas, and parking facilities are cleaned and disinfected according to standards. The position involves daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual cleaning tasks.
Key Responsibilities Daily Cleaning- Clean and disinfect all high-touch surfaces (e.g., counters, doorknobs, switches, handrails, phones, keyboards, faucets).
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors; spot clean carpets and upholstery.
- Empty, clean, and disinfect waste containers; replace liners.
- Restock consumable supplies (soap, paper towels, tissue, air fresheners).
- Clean restrooms, lunchrooms, exam rooms, and public areas according to DPH/CDC protocols.
- Maintain custodial closets in a clean, organized manner.
- Remove graffiti and report vandalism or facility damage.
- Follow signage and PPE requirements for sensitive areas (e.g., exam rooms or biohazard response).
- Weekly: Dust vents, baseboards, door jambs, and clean partitions.
- Monthly: Wash walls, clean blinds
- Respond promptly to spills, floods, or other custodial emergencies within two hours of notice.
- Support special events, meetings, or County programs (including weekends or holidays) as scheduled.
- Follow all County, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA safety procedures.
- Properly use PPE, chemicals, and disinfectants as directed by Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Maintain an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) awareness.
- Comply with County security and confidentiality rules — no unauthorized entry or access.
- Minimum 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience preferred (government or healthcare facility experience is a plus).
- Ability to communicate clearly in English (read, write, and speak).
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and safety procedures.
- Must be physically capable of standing, bending, lifting up to 40 lbs, and working on ladders.
- Must pass County background checks
- Valid eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Attention to detail, reliability, and professionalism in public-facing environments.
- Ability to follow schedules and adapt to special requests or emergency situations.
- Ability to convey information and ideas clearly with clients and team members
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working (per brand standards)
- Customer service-oriented attitude
