Successful candidates may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on assignment. Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year, with the possibility of renewal if funds and program needs exist.

Classification Salary Range: $3,461 - $4,752 monthly. Maximum salary budgeted for this position by the department is $3,747 monthly.

About the Department/Position

Under the immediate supervision of the Manager, Custodial Services the Custodians provide general cleaning and custodial care and support for assigned campus buildings, facilities, structures, and adjacent areas and/or portions thereof, including, but not limited to, campus offices, classrooms, science laboratories, art rooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, locker rooms, health, and child care centers, student residences, patios, entryways, walkways, and workshops; participate in campus event setup and clean‑up including moving bleachers;

load and unload cleaning supplies and materials.

  • No education specified.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Pass a physical exam.
  • Shifts subject to change depending on campus needs.
Preferred Qualifications

Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in custodial cleaning operations and at least one (1) year of custodial experience working in an institution of higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
  • Ability to use and care for custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to observe and use safe working conditions.
  • Have a general knowledge of methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and working knowledge of safety and sanitation measures appropriate for custodial work.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations where required and also be able to perform job duties in a manner that is highly service-oriented.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Working Material

All types of vacuum cleaners, wet vacuums, high‑speed buffers, manual floor machines, automatic floor machines, carpet cleaning equipment, trucks and/or electric carts, restroom paper towels, soap dispensers, and chemicals.

Responsibilities
  • Cleans and maintains assigned campus‑wide buildings and structures.
  • Gather and deliver recyclables to areas of central accumulation.
  • Load and unload cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Assists with moving tables, chairs, other furniture, and equipment.
  • Makes minor building maintenance repairs and adjustments in laboratories and classrooms.
  • Assists in setting up, which may include moving bleachers, and preparing for campus‑wide events, e.g., Honors Convocation, annual graduation ceremonies, etc.
General Information
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a pre‑employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
  • The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.
