A well-established Japanese-affiliated aerospace trading company in Carson, CA is seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee key business operations, including Business Development, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Export Compliance.
This is a leadership role with a strong focus on building and maintaining relationships with suppliers and customers in both the U.S. and Japan. The position will work closely with the current General Manager during a transition period and will gradually take over broader management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee Business Development, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Export Compliance functions
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential suppliers, including negotiation of distribution and agency agreements
- Support business development projects and coordination between U.S. suppliers and Japanese customers
- Serve as a key liaison between U.S. and Japan operations, ensuring smooth communication and alignment
- Travel domestically and internationally, including Japan, for customer and supplier meetings
- Lead and support supervisors and team members across departments
- Resolve operational issues and coordinate cross-functional activities as needed
- Support export license applications and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Maintain and support the company’s AS9120 Quality Management System
- Report key issues and business updates to the President and Vice President
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of relevant management or business experience
- Experience in Aerospace / Defense is highly preferred
- Candidates with experience in Automotive, Manufacturing, Industrial Products, or other technical industries will also be considered
- Strong understanding of international business, export operations, and supplier/customer relationship management
- Proven leadership and people management experience
- Ability to manage multiple projects and make sound business decisions
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively across Japanese and U.S. business cultures
- Flexible, professional, and dependable personality
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
