Job Description

The Quality Control Technician II plays a key role in ensuring product safety, consistency, and compliance within a food manufacturing environment. This position performs all Quality Control Technician I duties and takes on additional responsibilities related to verification, calibration, and advanced product quality assessments. The role supports food safety programs, continuous improvement initiatives, and provides guidance to junior team members as needed.

Responsibilities

+ Perform product temperature checks throughout production to ensure products remain within specified limits.

+ Conduct ATP equipment hygiene checks to verify effective sanitation of processing equipment.

+ Inspect equipment for cleanliness and sanitation readiness prior to and during production.

+ Perform Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspections to verify adherence to established standards.

+ Conduct sanitizer concentration verification to ensure proper chemical strengths for effective cleaning.

+ Measure pH and salt concentrations to confirm products meet defined specifications.

+ Perform pre-operational inspections prior to production start-up to verify equipment and areas are ready for use.

+ Verify water temperatures to ensure compliance with food safety and quality requirements.

+ Accurately document all test results and observations, and promptly report deviations to quality assurance leadership.

+ Perform all Quality Control Technician I responsibilities as part of the core role.

+ Conduct thermometer calibrations to maintain accuracy of temperature monitoring devices.

+ Perform seal integrity checks using vacuum testing equipment to confirm packaging integrity.

+ Collect sensory and retain samples for ongoing quality verification and traceability.

+ Conduct sensory evaluations of finished products to assess quality attributes such as appearance, texture, and flavor.

+ Verify label accuracy and compliance, including product information, coding, and regulatory requirements.

+ Communicate food safety and quality concerns clearly and promptly to supervisors and production teams.

+ Support advanced quality activities as needed, including monitoring freezer and cooler temperatures.

+ Assist with environmental swabbing in ready-to-eat production areas to verify sanitation effectiveness.

+ Participate in receiving inspections of ingredients and raw materials to ensure they meet quality standards.

+ Assist in root cause investigations and corrective actions related to quality or food safety issues.

+ Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, records, and process explanations.

+ Provide guidance and informal training to junior quality control staff to help build their skills and knowledge.

Essential Skills

+ Experience in quality control or quality assurance within the food industry, preferably with exposure to meat processing.

+ Ability to perform temperature checks, weight checks, and pH readings accurately and consistently.

+ Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and their application in a production environment.

+ Ability to conduct equipment inspections, pre-operational checks, and environmental swabbing.

+ Competence in verifying label accuracy and conducting basic label inspections.

+ Strong computer skills for data entry, recordkeeping, and use of quality systems or software.

+ High attention to detail and accuracy when documenting results and reporting deviations.

+ Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes.

+ Effective communication skills to clearly share food safety and quality concerns with supervisors and production teams.

+ Willingness and ability to work a Sunday-Thursday schedule from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM.

Work Environment

This role operates in a food manufacturing facility, likely within a meat processing environment, where maintaining strict food safety and quality standards is essential.
