Quality Control Technician II

The Quality Control Technician II plays a key role in ensuring product quality and food safety by performing all Quality Control Technician I duties and additional verification, calibration, and product quality assessments. This position supports quality assurance programs, contributes to continuous improvement of processes, and helps maintain compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and established procedures in a food production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all Quality Control Technician I responsibilities, including routine quality checks and documentation.
  • Conduct product temperature checks throughout production to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Perform ATP equipment hygiene checks to verify sanitation effectiveness.
  • Inspect production equipment for cleanliness and sanitation readiness prior to use.
  • Carry out Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspections on the production floor.
  • Verify sanitizer concentration levels to confirm proper cleaning and disinfection.
  • Measure pH and salt concentrations to ensure products meet defined quality standards.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections on equipment prior to production start-up.
  • Verify water temperatures to ensure they meet process and safety requirements.
  • Accurately document all test results and promptly report deviations to quality assurance leadership.
  • Conduct thermometer calibrations to maintain accurate temperature measurement instruments.
  • Perform seal integrity checks using vacuum testing equipment to confirm proper package sealing.
  • Collect sensory and retain samples for ongoing quality monitoring and traceability.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations of finished products to assess quality attributes such as appearance, texture, and flavor.
  • Verify label accuracy and compliance, including product information, coding, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate food safety and product quality concerns to supervisors and production teams in a clear and timely manner.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities related to temperature checks, weight checks, CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions), SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) adherence, and pH concentration monitoring.
  • Assist with environmental swabbing and label inspections as part of broader quality control programs.
  • Participate in pre-operational inspections and environmental verification activities to help maintain a safe and compliant processing environment.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on quality control experience in a food production or meat industry environment.
  • Ability to perform temperature checks, weight checks, and pH readings accurately and consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail when conducting inspections, measurements, and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and standard operating procedures in a food processing setting.
  • Capability to conduct pre-operational inspections on equipment and production areas.
  • Experience with environmental swabbing and label inspections in ready-to-eat or similar production areas.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, documentation, and use of quality management systems.
  • Ability to follow established quality assurance and food safety protocols, including CAPA and SOP requirements.
  • Effective communication skills to relay food safety and quality issues to supervisors and production staff.
  • Willingness and ability to work evening and overnight shifts as required by production schedules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the meat industry is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance processes, including CAPA and SOP development or adherence.
  • Comfort using measurement and testing equipment such as thermometers, vacuum testing devices, and pH meters.
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field is helpful and considered an asset.
  • Ability to train on earlier shifts (such as afternoon start times) before transitioning to a third shift schedule.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple checks and inspections during a production run.
