Plumber, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Summary
Plumbers coordinate, execute, maintain, repair and install all types of plumbing equipment, domestic water systems, sewer systems, and related devices. Perform preventative maintenance programs, inspections and repairs. Install new plumbing fixtures including sinks, urinals, faucets, drinking fountains, and related devices. Due to the multifamily nature of field work, Plumbers provide a high level of repetition to meet production demands and work as a team to meet job deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assemble, install and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering equipment.
- Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
- Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess materials and equipment needs, establish the sequence of pipe installations, and plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
- Locate and mark the position of pipe installation, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters and pipe‑threading machines.
- Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers and water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets using hand and power tools.
- Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings using hand and power tools.
- Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
- Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective washers, repairing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains.
- Direct apprentice plumbers and laborers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly and installation of plumbing systems and components.
- Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 4 years of multifamily plumbing experience, 2 years in commercial plumbing.
- Knowledge of UPC and plumbing codes.
- Journeyman’s License, including a minimum of 4 years field plumbing experience.
- OSHA 10‑hour certificate (helpful).
- First aid certificate (helpful).
While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee will be required to sit or stand for long periods, regularly walk, climb ladders and scaffolding, use hands or fingers to operate or feel tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in confined spaces, and regularly lift and move up to 30 pounds. The position may require working in outdoor or indoor environments, seasonal heat or cold, adverse weather conditions, exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil, grease and gases, hazardous materials, machinery with moving parts, heights and confined spaces.
Repetitive processes to achieve production demands may be required.
