Summary/Objective:

The second shift Dispatcher will help finalize the AM Shift and kick off and finalize the PM Shift. The Dispatcher will be responsible for using the latest TMS (Trinium / Wisetech Global) to establish daily LMC updates and follow up with the LMC to fulfill the order/job. The successful candidate for this position needs to adjust to last‑minute changes and work with the LMC pool and allocate drivers to all open orders to avoid mis‑opportunities or service failures.

Essential Functions:
  • Follow up with LMCs from previous shift and make sure that they execute / fulfil assignments.
  • Collaborate with management, communicate terminal conditions, changes, closures and day‑to‑day productivity.
  • Monitor driver activities (via Trinium) making sure that assignments are updated in real time and interchanges, PODs and paperwork are scanned into TMS via their LMC application.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with terminals, drivers and customers to reduce the stress that comes with last‑minute schedule changes.
  • Monitor any sudden terminal changes or road closures / detours and work with drivers to establish new routes for timely deliveries and avoid service failures.
  • Proactively schedule and/or allocate the LMCs to the next move when they are reaching completion of previous assignment.
  • Update data entry of Trinium (TMS) with accessorial (Terminal WT, Split terminations, Stop‑offs, Dry runs, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot problems at terminals and communicate with the customer to ensure timely communication to avoid billing issues.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the drivers (driver retention).
  • Identify and process hazardous loads and overweight haulage (loads over 80,000 GVW), assuring that all appropriate documents needed to conduct the move are submitted and available.
  • Manage and track multiple customers and their containers / shipments.
  • Provide daily status updates to customers and internal reporting (daily shift turnover).
  • Coordinate and communicate pick‑up and deliveries with direct customers and/or intercompany key contacts.
  • Keep proper timekeeping and dispatch drivers to meet terminal appointments; need to be able to react and switch appointments or add additional power to avoid service failure.
  • Confirm receiving of Delivery Orders from customers and reply / confirm new orders via email.
  • Properly perform data entry on LCL and TL work orders / Delivery Orders and/or accept the orders via EDI.
  • Check loose freight availability (CFS).
  • Coordinate and schedule special events, white‑glove deliveries and CFS pick ups promptly.
  • Troubleshoot issues – appointments, pier pass, refusing empties, recognizing and identifying off‑hire equipment, etc.
  • Know and assure that all assignments are marked and stamped DL (delivered) in our TMS, maintaining our load board 100% clean and clear with proper notes on troubled shipments.

Required

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Strong knowledge of Port Terminals (LA, LGB, OAK, HOU, NY, EWR, etc.), rail yards, and of the roadways throughout the immediate area.
  • Ability to work in a team environment in high‑pressure situations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
  • Knowledge of Trinium system (preferred)
  • 2‑years logistics industry experience preferred
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in the office for most of their day, occasionally walking on uneven surfaces to the warehouse/yard environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually low in the office and moderate outside of the office.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Occasional bending, reaching overhead.
