Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Yard Hostler to support daily warehouse and transportation operations in Carson, CA. The Yard Hostler is responsible for moving trailers safely throughout the yard, ensuring dock doors are serviced efficiently, and maintaining organized trailer flow to support shipping and receiving operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
* Move and position trailers within the yard and dock areas safely and efficiently.
* Perform daily inspections of hostler truck and trailers before use.
* Coordinate with warehouse, shipping, and receiving teams to prioritize trailer movement.
* Ensure trailers are properly secured at dock doors.
* Monitor trailer inventory and maintain accurate yard locations.
* Communicate equipment or safety issues to management immediately.
* Follow all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and DOT regulations.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard area.
* Assist with basic documentation and yard checks as needed.
* Work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
Qualifications
* Previous yard hostler, yard jockey, or warehouse yard experience preferred.
* Valid California Driver's License required; CDL preferred but not always required.
* Ability to safely operate hostler trucks and maneuver trailers in tight spaces.
* Strong attention to safety and detail.
* Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Flexible schedule, including overtime or weekends if needed.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb frequently throughout shift.
* Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment
* Distribution center, warehouse, or logistics yard environment.
* Exposure to moving equipment, trailer traffic, noise, and changing weather conditions.
Preferred Experience
* Experience in 3PL, distribution, manufacturing, or logistics operations.
* RF scanner or warehouse management system knowledge is a plus.
* Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
