About the role:
The Ocean Import Coordinator is responsible for managing the end-to-end import shipment process, ensuring cargo moves efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment while delivering exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate ocean import shipments to ensure timely delivery and fulfillment of service commitments while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Serve as the primary liaison between clients, overseas agents, trucking companies, vendors, and government agencies for all ocean freight activities.
- Track, trace, and communicate shipment updates to customers, overseas partners, and carriers in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare and submit Importer Security Filing (ISF) documentation in compliance with U.S. Customs regulations.
- Maintain and update freight rates monthly and provide accurate quotations to customers as needed.
- Utilize Cargo Wise to create and manage shipment files, update cargo statuses, and process billing accurately and efficiently on a daily basis.
- Support the preparation of weekly operational review reports and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with company and regulatory standards.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in ocean import operations within an NVOCC or freight forwarding environment.
- Strong understanding of ocean freight import procedures, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Proficient in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and logistics software platforms such as Cargo Wise.
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import compliance procedures.
- Strong customer service mindset with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments and external partners.
