Manufacturing Automation Engineer
Join Shaw Industries as an Electrical Controls (Automation) Engineer at our Cartersville, GA manufacturing facility, where you’ll play a key role in driving automation, reliability, and continuous improvement across plant operations. This in‑person, plant‑based role partners closely with production teams to troubleshoot complex systems, lead capital projects, and enhance safety, quality, and productivity. Ideal candidates bring hands‑on PLC and automation experience, a strong technical foundation, and a passion for innovation in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Become an equipment and product expert in designated departments.
- Support mechanical/electrical technicians and process engineers when advanced problem solving is needed.
- Partner with departmental production teams to identify and implement safety, quality, and productivity improvement ideas.
- Support and drive plant/departmental goals.
- Mentor, evaluate, and develop plant technical resources.
- Design and manage the implementation of capital projects, including controls, electrical power, and mechanical portions.
- Maintain and enforce corporate electrical standards and code requirements.
- Assist with local oversight and long‑term ownership of corporately managed projects.
- Ensure supportability of all automation solutions, including management of drawings, documentation, procedures, source code, spare parts, obsolescence awareness, and third‑party support.
- Work with CIM and other Shaw Automation Engineers to share knowledge and leverage resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with at least 1 year of automation experience.
- Experience with design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of PLCs, Allen Bradley, Siemens; PC hardware/software; HMI interfaces and other controls.
- Understanding of AC/DC/servo motors and moderate to advanced knowledge of single and three‑phase power and distribution.
- Ability to write moderate to advanced software applications to access and manipulate data from central data storage and process/logic controllers.
- Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and network theory.
- Moderate to advanced understanding of machine safety and safety systems, including guarding, safety categories, and performance levels.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays and off‑shifts as needed.
- This position can be filled as an Automation Engineer I or II based on experience.
