About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Lead Cabinet Finisher to oversee and execute high-quality finishing work on custom cabinets and wood products. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong eye for color, craftsmanship, and consistency, who can lead finishing operations from preparation through final inspection.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare cabinet and wood surfaces for finishing (sanding, filling, masking)
- Apply finishes using both spray and hand application techniques
- Mix and match paints, stains, glazes, toners, and finishes to achieve custom colors
- Demonstrate strong color recognition and consistency across entire rooms or projects
- Apply high-end finishes including:
- Smooth lacquer
- Conversion varnish
- Pre-catalyzed and post-catalyzed finishes
- Stains, glazes, distressing, and specialty textures
- Ensure chemical compatibility between finishes and substrates
- Maintain consistent quality across all projects
- Lead and organize daily workflow within the finishing department
- Inspect finished products and perform touch-ups as needed
- Maintain a clean work area, spray booth, and equipment
- Work closely with the production team to meet deadlines and quality standards
- Train and mentor other finishers as needed
- Follow shop safety standards and PPE requirements
- 3+ years of experience in cabinet or furniture finishing
- Strong knowledge of finishing materials, coatings, and application techniques
- Experience with spray equipment (HVLP or similar)
- Ability to read and follow finish specifications and work orders
- Excellent attention to detail and quality control
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to lead by example
- Previous lead or supervisory experience
- Background in custom cabinetry or high-end woodworking
- Strong understanding of shop safety and finishing best practices
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in a shop and spray booth environment with PPE
