Chemical Operator Job Description

This role operates within a clean, well-lit chemical manufacturing environment, where you will safely mix, compound, and transfer raw materials and finished formulas according to detailed production instructions. You will perform washouts, complete accurate documentation, support quality control testing, and help maintain a safe and orderly compounding area while following all safety procedures and dress code requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform kettle and holding tank washouts in full compliance with departmental requirements and specific formula instructions.
  • Record raw material requirements, lot and batch numbers, and consumed quantities accurately on all required paperwork and container labels.
  • Submit samples of formulas and raw materials to the quality control team for testing and approval before release.
  • Follow Production Order Instructions, procedures, and compounding processes to ensure each formula batch meets required specifications.
  • Safely and appropriately use pumps, hoses, transfer lines, and valves to transfer raw materials and formulas between containers.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis as part of daily production activities.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) in each area of the plant and adhere to the Production Floor Employee Dress Code at all times.
  • Execute assigned housekeeping tasks in compounding work areas to maintain a safe, clean environment that minimizes contamination and exposure risks.
  • Replace and maintain hoses, gaskets, and connectors as needed to ensure safe, clean transfer of materials and formulas.
  • Assist in troubleshooting transfer pumps to resolve flow or transfer issues and support continuous production.
  • Operate a forklift and/or pallet jack as needed to move materials, pallets, and finished products throughout the facility.
Essential Skills
  • Strong attention to detail when following production orders, documenting materials, and performing washouts.
  • Consistent adherence to all safety procedures in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes related to chemical mixing, compounding, and batch making.
  • Ability to safely and effectively perform chemical mixing, compounding, and batch making tasks.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack safely as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Basic math skills to calculate quantities, track usage, and complete production documentation.
  • Basic reading and writing skills to interpret production orders, safety instructions, and complete required paperwork.

  • Chemical experience in a production or manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Experience working in a chemical environment with mixing, compounding, and batch making processes.
  • Familiarity with using pumps, hoses, transfer lines, and valves in a production environment.

The role is based in a chemical manufacturing environment that is clean and well‑lit, emphasizing safety, organization, and contamination control. You will work primarily in compounding areas with kettles, holding tanks, pumps, hoses, transfer lines, and valves, and you will use equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks to move materials. The position follows a first‑shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas, and employees must follow the Production Floor Employee Dress Code to maintain safety and product integrity.
