Job Summary

Gulf Coast Industrial is currently seeking a Multi-craft Blast/Paint/Scaffold Builder. This position must effectively and safely perform surface preparation, coatings application and all associated phases of industrial coating. In addition, this role must effectively and safely perform all duties required to erect, alter, and dismantle scaffolds. It will also apply, remove, and repair insulating material to exposed surfaces or structures, such as air ducts, hot or cold pipes, storage tanks, boilers, and buildings to help control noise and maintain temperatures.

Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares surfaces and applies coatings to various structures, tanks, piping, and miscellaneous surfaces in accordance with customer specifications and manufacturers6; recommendations.
  • Assembles, maintains, repairs, and cleans abrasive blasting and painting equipment.
  • Mixes and thins coatings according to manufacturer6;s recommendations.
  • Constructs protective enclosures to avoid overspray of customer equipment.
  • Assists in loading, unloading and storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Assembles, alters and dismantles scaffolds according to OSHA guidelines and manufacturers'6; recommendations.
  • Cooperates with Gulf Coast Industrial Project Manager and customers in carrying out assigned work.
  • Directs the Helper/Laborer in proper work performance and job requirements.
  • Performs work in the safest possible manner at all times and immediately corrects unsafe conditions.
  • Works at heights with no fear.
  • Applies adhesives to insulation material or attaches metal adhesive application as needed.
  • Determines amounts and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form) based on heat retention, location, surface, shape, and equipment use.
  • Measures and cuts insulation material to specified sizes and shapes for covering surfaces using handsaw, knife, or scissors.
  • Fits, wraps, or attaches insulation material around or to structures following blueprint specifications.
  • Seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to the structure using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
Requirements and Education
  • The Multi-craft Scaffold Builder/Insulator must be highly productive, experienced in his craft, and familiar with the use of all equipment, materials, and procedures necessary for the safe erection, modification, and dismantling of all types of scaffolds.
  • Must be able to follow directions.
  • Must have knowledge of safe work practices.
  • The insulator must be highly productive and experienced in all phases of industrial insulation including installation, repair, and removal.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Preferred Requirements and Education
  • Experience and knowledge in the use of scaffold ratchets, hammers, adjustable wrenches, linesman pliers, tape measure, level, hand saw, band saw, skill saw, drill, and pry bar hammer is preferred.
