Overview
Fire Alarm & Security Technician responsible for installing, troubleshooting, servicing and repairing fire alarm and security systems and other fire and life safety products with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities- Install, troubleshoot and repair fire alarm and suppression system components using appropriate tools and equipment (multimeter, megger, laptop for programming, lifts, etc.).
- Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of fire alarm codes and standards.
- Program and configure a variety of fire alarm systems during component removal or replacement.
- Troubleshoot faults, including ground faults, in fire alarm systems.
- Repair or replace damaged fire alarm components such as FACP, power supplies, and alarm‑initiating devices.
- Safely handle and replace explosive actuators (squibs and gas cartridge actuators) following procedures.
- Communicate professionally with internal/external customers and offsite monitoring companies.
- Be punctual to assigned locations and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
- Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials, time on job, and related data.
- Complete documentation on work orders.
- Follow SFS safety programs, SDS, Hazardous Communication program, and company policies; maintain knowledge of related safety documentation on each project.
- Maintain a clean and well‑maintained company vehicle per policy.
- Be placed on call for emergency service requests as required by location.
- Attend seminars or training to stay current with technology, codes, and standards; train service technician trainees in relevant aspects of fire protection.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required; NICET or state‑specific certification preferred.
- Experience:
2 years in Fire Life Safety, specifically Fire Alarm, required. - NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Certification required.
- 2 years of professional computer skills preferred.
- Communication: ability to read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.
- Systems and Software: 2 years using business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, or similar preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to travel up to 90% locally.
- Must comply with Drug and Alcohol policy and background screening requirements; may include customer-specific requirements based on contract.

Physical Requirements: While performing duties, the employee is frequently required to bend, climb ladders/stairs, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, reach, stand and walk for extended periods. Vision: color, near and far distance, peripheral, depth, and focus. Occasional balance, crouch, drive, lift over 50 lbs, sit, stoop, twist and work at heights.
Work Environment: Outdoor work with exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards and noise. Some work indoors in an office or collaborative setting. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by safety policies.
