Position:
Payroll Clerk

Term:
Full-time, 12 Months (260/261 Days)

Classification:
Classified, Non-exempt

Location:

Administration Building

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent;
Business/accounting coursework preferred;
Experience in payroll processing or bookkeeping preferred;
Experience with business/payroll software, preferred

Reports to:

Director of Human Resources and Payroll Specialist

  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems for accountability and audit purposes as required by law and Board policy
  • Solve practical problems as needed to complete job duties
  • Read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and handbooks and apply to job duties
Essential Functions
  • Assist with payroll processing ensuring timely and accurate payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data
  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, retirement, other deductions, and position changes
  • Maintain all processes related to retirement
  • Maintain high levels of customer service by answering questions and requests in a timely manner
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Work effectively with other departments
  • Work on multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines
  • Work independently in a disciplined, detail‑oriented environment
  • Learn all aspects of payroll, including cross training and problem solving
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand or sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Attendance

Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
