Moore County Schools is seeking a superintendent to lead the school system as it continues to ensure that educational experiences inspire students to reach their full potential and lead productive lives in an ever-changing world. Applications are due April 1, 2026.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM
  • Moore County Schools serves approximately 13,017 students in grades PK-12th grade.
  • The school system operates 24 schools, including:
    • 13 elementary schools (2 of which are K-8)
    • 5 middle schools
    • 4 high schools
    • 1 Technical/Alternative school
    • 1 Virtual/Blend+Ed school
  • Moore County Schools employs more than 1,764 dedicated staff members.
  • The school system benefits from strong community support and partnerships, including the Moore County Chamber of Commerce, Moore County Economic Development Partnership, and Sandhills Community College.
  • Moore County Schools is governed by a seven-member nonpartisan Board of Education, elected to staggered four-year terms.
ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

Moore County is located in North Carolina's Sandhills, approximately one hour southwest of the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) and RDU Airport, with easy access to both the mountains and the coast. Its proximity to Fort Bragg and Pope Field draws a global population due to the strong military presence.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Candidates must meet the legal requirements to be licensed as a superintendent in North Carolina or be otherwise qualified and eligible to serve in accordance with State Board of Education policy. The selected candidate will be required to reside in Moore County.

Experience at both the central office and building level is preferred. A doctoral degree or progress toward one is preferred but not required. Applicants must hold, or provide evidence of eligibility for, North Carolina Superintendent Certification.
