Position: 5th Grade Dual Language Teacher (Spanish - Math/Science/Spanish Literacy)
We are seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) 5th Grade Dual Language Teacher to teach core academic content primarily in Spanish as part of our Dual Language Immersion program.

Job Title: 5th Grade Dual Language Teacher (Spanish - Math/Science/Spanish Literacy)

Responsible to: Building principal

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in the area of Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary Education. Oral

and written proficiency in Spanish and English, if teaching content area or literacy in Spanish.

Primary Function:

Develop a love of learning and self-worth in each student to encourage life-long learners,

including a passion for being bilingual and working among multiple cultures.

General Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of content level.
  • Maintain the use of advanced Spanish language skills in the content area, if teaching in Spanish.
  • Follow district curriculum to meet the needs of the students.
  • Plan, design, prepare for and implement a variety of effective teaching techniques in order to successfully meet the educational needs of the students.
  • Maintain a positive classroom atmosphere conductive to learning; climate of respect and fairness.
  • Assess learning outcomes of students by various methods (testing, observation, portfolios, other assessments).
  • Plan and implement appropriate classroom management strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community members.
  • Utilize technology.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth.
  • Keep all appropriate records.
  • Attend meetings and assume extra duties assigned by principal.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff.
Specific Duties: (all apply within the language of instruction)
Planning and Organization
  • Prepare effective and appropriate lesson plans and learning experiences consistent with district curriculum and state standards.
  • Use student performance data to plan instruction.
  • Promote bilingualism and the status of the Spanish language.
  • Plan collaboratively with Dual Language Team.
Strategies and Teaching Practices
  • Provide opportunities for students to demonstrate knowledge of content and subject matter.
  • Meet student needs through differentiated instruction.
  • Use various effective instructional strategies to promote student learning.
  • Enable students to connect content to authentic experiences.
  • Maintain use of the language of instruction consistently.
Monitoring and Managing Student Learning
  • Align assessments with the goals, objectives and instructional strategies of district curriculum guides, state standards and assessments, and when appropriate, IEPs.
  • Vary methods for assessing student performance as appropriate.
  • Use student performance data to monitor the effectiveness of instruction.
Classroom Environment
  • Manage student behavior in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Actively engage and keep students on task.
  • Utilize instructional time effectively.
  • Manage discipline and safety in accordance with site discipline plan, board policy and state statutes.
  • Establish and clearly communicate classroom expectations to students and parents/guardians.
  • Model intercultural competence and the values of diversity and equity.
Professional Responsibility
  • Engage in appropriate interpersonal relationships and communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, community, staff and administration.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural, gender, intellectual and physical ability differences.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and administration.
  • Display a positive attitude and promote a positive image of the school and community.
  • Participate in professional development activities and model a commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures and regulations of the building and district.
  • Fulfill responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to school.
  • Maintain district-provided Professional Portfolio.
