Clinical Educator – Band 6

Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the busiest and largest NHS hospital trusts in the country, employing around 16,000 staff with an annual budget of £1.7 billion. We provide high‑quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation regionally, nationally and internationally, and are a top provider of specialised health services.

We offer a wide range of hospital and community services, supporting people with rare and complex medical, surgical and neurological conditions, cancers and genetic disorders. Our commitment to equality and diversity creates an inclusive environment that respects and values all employees, reflecting the communities we serve.

We are also an exemplar in sustainability, having declared a climate emergency and setting Net Zero targets for 2030 (direct footprint) and 2040 (total footprint). Our strategy relies on every team member’s support, with sustainability embedded across all operations.

Job Overview

With thanks to Newcastle Hospitals Charities, we offer a 9‑month Nurse role within the palliative care service to support trust‑wide education focused on outstanding end‑of‑life care. You will implement the digital Caring for the Dying Patient Document and Comfort Observation systems in eRecord, collaborating with palliative care staff, digital health specialists, and the clinical educator team.

Time is of the essence: the role aligns with the launch of these digital systems. You will provide education delivery in many forms—awareness events, real‑time support during go‑live, ongoing support across wards and departments (RVI, Freeman, NCCC), and plan sustainable models beyond the post.

Main Duties

Work with current Nurse Specialists for End‑of‑Life Care to support the 5 priorities of the care and Palliative Care Service strategy. Input into the final system, support communications, and be the dedicated resource for teaching how eRecord enhances ending‑of‑life care.

  • Participate in finalising the system and test with staff.
  • Support communications/engagement for readiness.
  • Consider community interface for patients discharged with the new system.
  • Collaborate closely with palliative care, digital health, and clinical educators to maximise impact.
Post‑Go‑Live Responsibilities
  • Deliver real‑time staff support through education and role modelling across the trust, using enhanced communication skills.
  • Provide education in 1:1, small groups, MS Teams, lecture theatres, and e‑learning for multidisciplinary teams.
  • Enhance existing educational offers to include the new component.
  • Develop sustainability measures to ensure ongoing education for good end‑of‑life care.
