The Estates and Facilities Directorate is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Joiner at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. This role will carry out joinery programmes, minor works and day-to-day reactive maintenance. The joinery programme is critical to achieving a suitable patient environment for all wards and departments, ensuring the highest level of care.

Main Responsibilities- Perform joinery programmes, minor works and day‑to‑day reactive maintenance.
- Interpret work from drawings, instructions and specifications; diagnose faults and carry out necessary repair work.
- Liaise with clinical teams when carrying out work in patient areas to ensure patient safety and infection control is not compromised.
- Provide a coherent service for both maintenance and minor work schemes, understanding other craftsmen’s work within their disciplines.
- Undertake planned preventative and reactive building maintenance duties, minor and major refurbishment works and manufacturing across all Trust properties and other areas of responsibility.
- Statutory inspection, maintenance and repair of fire‑resistant door sets and upgrade when necessary.
- Design, manufacture and install bespoke furniture and equipment.
- Maintain and repair fixtures, fittings and equipment.
- Conduct locksmith duties: install and repair/recondition door locks and furniture (including specialist hardware such as digital locks, control‑drug locks, etc.), controlled access and key cutting.
- Perform window repairs, including replacement glazing.
- Interpret technical drawings, measure and set out on site.
- Install partition walls, ceilings and decorative mouldings, including approved fire‑stopping details where appropriate.
- Undertake condition surveys and communicate findings and recommendations.
- Complete and process mandatory documentation associated with specific work tasks (Fire Door and Window PPMs, Condition Surveys), ensuring integration with the Directorate’s chosen CAFM system.
- Remain aware of the direct effects and impacts upon environment, safety and comfort of patients, staff and the public; respond pro‑actively as required.
- Assist with processing documentation associated with Estates IT admin requirements.
Essential
- Recognised Joinery Apprenticeship.
- City & Guilds qualification or NVQ Level 3, or equivalent post‑apprenticeship experience.
Desirable
- Minimum ONC / BTech qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Recognised qualification/training for the installation and maintenance of fire doors and/or installation of fire‑stopping (Q‑Mark, FDIS, FIRAS, etc., or equivalent).
- Current driving licence.
Essential
- Comprehensive post‑apprenticeship experience, preferably in an NHS/hospital maintenance environment.
- Understanding of key Health and Safety and Fire Safety legislation relevant to the role.
Desirable
- Post‑apprenticeship experience within complex building services.
- Experience working in an acute hospital environment.
- Knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda and Health Building Note Guidance Documents.
- Able to make workload assessments and allocation.
- Ability to evaluate and solve problems in situ.
