Nurse Practitioner

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team to cover maternity leave. This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously within an acute setting, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care using established clinical pathways and guidelines.

• Urgent treatment centres
• 37 hours 30 minutes per week
• Master’s degree required
• Management experience/qualification required

• Independently assess and take history for patients presenting with acute conditions.
• Work within established clinical pathways and protocols.
• Order and interpret appropriate investigations in line with pathway-based care.
• Formulate and implement safe evidence-based management plans.
• Escalate and discuss complex cases with senior clinicians or specialty teams when indicated.
• Prescribe medications safely and appropriately.
• Recognise and respond to clinical deterioration appropriately.
• Facilitate safe discharge or admission in line with clinical pathways.
• Complete clear and comprehensive discharge documentation.
• Coordinate outpatient investigations ensuring timely follow-up.
• Communicate effectively with GPs and specialty teams, ensuring continuity of care.
• Demonstrate strong time‑management and prioritisation skills.
• Actively participate in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support ward sisters and the wider nursing/medical team.
• Provide supervision, guidance, and support to junior staff and students.
• Act as a role model, promoting high standards of clinical practice and professionalism.

• Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch).
• Current NMC registration.
• Degree/Master’s level study, or equivalent specialist study/experience (e.g., Nurse Practitioner Qualification).

• Master’s degree.
• Management experience/qualification.
• Completion of Non‑medical independent nurse prescribing course.

• Meeting NMC mentorship requirement if relevant.
• Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
• Knowledge of relevant NHS policy.
• Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding.
• Recent experience of extended clinical practice in a senior role (e.g., venepuncture, cannulation, intravenous drug administration).
• Audit/research experience.

• Good IT skills.
• Ability to work independently and across disciplines as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Effective organisation and time‑management skills.
• Current driving licence if relevant.
• Appropriate moving and handling of patients and objects as per Trust guidelines.

• Evidence of leading education/training programmes.
