ROLE

SUMMARY:

King’s College School, Cascais is seeking a responsible and committed Summer Camp Residential Monitor and Medical Assistant to support student wellbeing, supervision and medical procedures throughout our Summer Camp programme running from 24 June to 25 July 2026
. Reporting directly to the Summer Camp Boarding Coordinator
, the post-holder will provide excellent pastoral care for both boarding and day students, ensuring students are safe, supported and following camp procedures at all times.

Alongside residential monitoring duties, the role includes supporting the camp nurse during weekdays and following required medical procedures when the nurse is absent in the evenings, overnight and king hours include evening activity duties, late duties, overnight duties and an on‑call requirement for emergencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide excellent pastoral care for boarding and day students, supporting physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and maintaining appropriate discipline.
  • closely with the Camp Director and Deputies, communicating issues immediately.
  • Chaperone students on off‑site excursions, following safety instructions from camp leadership.
  • Attend all staff meetings and participate in evening activities.
  • Take responsibility for materials used during organised activities and keep areas clean and tidy.
  • Work flexibly within a rota system, including evening activity duties, late duties and overnight duties.
  • Be on call and respond appropriately to emergencies (incident, fire, intruder, or other emergency).
  • Support first aid and health issues for campers alongside the Deputies, Camp Director and Nurse.
  • Assist the camp nurse Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30.
  • Follow required medical procedures while the nurse is absent during evenings, overnight and weekends.
  • Support arrival and departure days (Saturdays and Sundays), including welcoming families and airport transfers.
  • Be ready to assist as needed, recognising that the role may require cover for duties or unexpected situations around the clock.
  • Attend training/planning sessions prior to camp and complete mandatory Educare safeguarding modules before arrival.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Advanced or Proficient English (C1–C2 required) and the ability to operate in English with students throughout the camp.
  • Ability to provide excellent pastoral care for boarding and day students, supporting physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and maintaining appropriate discipline.
  • Ability to ensure students are never left unattended, including during off‑site excursions.
  • Confidence to follow and enforce boarding and school procedures (e.g., sign in/out, mealtimes, bedtime routines, medication and night‑time procedures).
  • Ability to support first aid and health issues for campers alongside the Camp Director/Deputies/Nurse.
  • Ability to assist the camp nurse (Mon–Fri, 08:30–17:30) and follow medical procedures when the nurse is absent (evenings/overnight/weekends).
  • Willingness and flexibility to work a rota system, including evening activities, late duties, overnight duties, being on call, and covering unexpected situations when needed.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate with the Camp Director and Deputies, communicating issues immediately.
  • Commitment to safeguarding: completion of Educare child safety training (mandatory before inset days) and attendance at training/planning sessions before camp.
  • High standards of personal hygiene and appearance, and willingness to follow the KCC Staff Handbook, uniform and health & safety requirements.
