Position: Lineman C-A

Job Summary

Perform work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities. This position builds upon the skills, abilities and knowledge learned as a Lineman D (or equivalent).

Durable Residency Requirement

Successful candidate must reside within a 30‑mile radius to the Carthage Service Center.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble, install, maintain, remove, and competently inspect underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment on de‑energized and grounded overhead and underground facilities under immediate or general supervision.
  • During the first six months, work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision; thereafter, capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision.
  • Use volt‑amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts.
  • Apply insulating protective equipment on facilities energized at qualified voltages.
  • Operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices; refuse line and transformer devices; test de‑energized lines and equipment; place or remove grounds.
  • Build and erect equipment mountings (e.g., regulator and transformer platforms) and build overhead transformer installations.
  • Conduct proper tagging procedures while performing switching of energized circuits.
  • Perform inspection and troubleshooting of lines.
  • Direct the work of employees assigned to assist, progressing from direct supervision to immediate and finally general supervision as skill level dictates.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or GED).
  • Minimum one year of distribution electrical power line work experience, or one year of related line experience defined as successful completion of a one‑year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship.
  • Valid Class A CDL is required.
  • Must have performed the duties of and have all the qualifications of Lineman D (or the equivalent) and qualify through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.
  • Demonstrate the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of Lineman A in this family and be qualified through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.
  • Physical abilities assessment required for this position.
Additional Classifications
  • LinemanB – Minimum 2 years of work experience as Lineman C or equivalent; must have performed duties of Lineman C; valid Class A CDL; physical assessment required.
  • LinemanA – Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B‑200 certification written test with a score of 80% or higher and successful completion of hands‑on comprehensive demonstrations. External candidates must have a minimum of 4 years line work experience and successful completion of the journeyman pre‑assessment; valid Class A CDL; physical assessment required.
Compensation

LinemanC – $34.69/hr
LinemanB – $39.33/hr
LinemanA – $56.36/hr

Physical Demand

Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10–20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
