About the Role:

The HVAC Service Technician II troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains residential HVAC systems—performing routine maintenance, diagnosing complex problems, and ensuring systems run efficiently. The role also includes selling HVAC replacement systems and performing start-up commissioning on newly installed units. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of residential HVAC systems, strong problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused approach.

What You'll Do:

As an HVAC Service Technician II, your core responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshoot and Repair:
    • Diagnose and repair heating, cooling, and ventilation issues in residential systems—including furnaces, boilers, combi-boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductless units—using diagnostic tools and digital multimeters to identify root causes.
    • Troubleshoot and repair refrigerant leaks, electrical issues, and airflow problems, recommending solutions that quickly restore comfort in the home.
  • Maintenance and Service:
    • Perform routine preventive maintenance and seasonal tune-ups on residential HVAC systems, including cleaning coils, changing filters, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting and lubricating moving parts.
    • Advise customers on best practices to improve energy efficiency and system longevity.
  • System Commissioning and Start-Up:
    • Perform start-up commissioning on newly installed HVAC units, testing and calibrating system controls to ensure proper installation and manufacturer-specified performance.
    • Walk clients through system operation, care instructions, and maintenance recommendations.
  • Sales and System Replacements:
    • Assess the need for HVAC system replacement during service visits, providing detailed estimates and educating homeowners on options that meet their needs, preferences, and budget.
    • Present product features and energy-saving benefits, and collaborate with the sales team to close replacement sales while promoting energy-efficient products that align with current regulations.
  • Customer Service and Communication:
    • Maintain a professional, courteous attitude, clearly explaining technical problems and system conditions so customers stay fully informed and can make confident decisions.
    • Foster positive client relationships and accurately complete all service documentation, including work orders, invoices, and maintenance records.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer's guidelines, including safe handling of refrigerants and electrical components.
    • Maintain and use all tools and equipment according to safety standards.
  • Team Collaboration and Development:
    • Collaborate effectively with other technicians, service managers, and the installation team to provide comprehensive service, mentoring junior technicians as needed.
    • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and technologies through ongoing training and certifications.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

What You'll Need:

  • NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certification or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • 3+ years of experience as an HVAC Service Technician, with a strong background troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining both conventional and modern residential HVAC systems (ductless mini-splits, heat pumps, smart thermostats, high-efficiency boilers).
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems and proficiency with diagnostic tools, digital multimeters, and refrigerant handling, with the ability to diagnose and repair complex issues independently.
  • Experience with system start-up commissioning and installation support, and familiarity with energy-efficient systems and environmentally friendly refrigerants.
