Position Summary

The Program Assistant for the Institute for the Study of the Americas supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and initiatives that foster engagement, leadership development, and community-building for UNC Chapel-Hill. This role provides administrative, logistical, and operational support for events, student programs, and grant initiatives while helping to create a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.

The Program Assistant collaborates closely with campus and community stakeholders to advance the Institute’s mission.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for events, student programs, and grant initiatives.
  • Create a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Collaborate closely with campus and community stakeholders to advance the Institute’s mission.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management Preferences
  • English/Spanish bilingual (or knowledge of another language spoken in Latin America/Caribbean)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Adaptability to learning new software
  • Strong verbal and written communication with effective interpersonal skills
