Description of Work This position is located in the Mailroom within Granville Correctional Institution in Butner, Granville County, NC. This position will function in the centralized mail processing center of a male close security custody facility.
Key Duties Included:
Inspect and review content of offenders mail.
Process and handle all legal mail; utilize offender banking system to enter funds received for offenders.
- Sort, and process all incoming packages and all outgoing mail and packages.
- Meet distribution needs for both the facility and offenders ensuring all policy and procedures are applied for the safely and security of the public and staff.
- Follow office procedures and practices, as well as office programs, organizational structure and services to initiate, monitor, review, and maintain a variety of documents to determine or obtain compliance and acceptability of actions.
Conduct work independently using good communication with facility staff in verbal and written form.
Answer offender inquiries concerning mail.
Must be physically able to lift, pull and/or push at least 10 pounds to move large bins of mail and/or packages.
Must be able to operate a computer.
This is an essential position and the employee must report to work during inclement weather.

/Management Preferences Salary Range: $31,200.00 - $51,249.00

Documented working knowledge of word processing or spreadsheet programs.

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
