About UsThe NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Description of Work Reporting to the Fiscal Sergeant II at a medium custody male correctional facility, this position is responsible for processing, reviewing, and distributing all outgoing mail, packages, legal, certified, and courier mail. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Processing a high volume of mail and interoffice correspondence daily.
2. Maintaining security of the facility by searching/reviewing all incoming mail for unauthorized items/contraband, and correspondence deemed a threat to the safety, security, and orderly function of the facility.
3. Reviewing publications received for compliance with NCDAC policies to maintain safety and security.
4. Processing and logging all offender legal mail and facility certified mail.
5. Using postage meter to apply postage and determining cost of outgoing mail/packages.
6. Delivering and picking up daily from the post office.
7. Picking up and delivering mail to assigned drop off points within the facility daily which will require a significant amount of walking even during inclement weather.
8. Entering money orders, cashier/certified checks received for offenders into offender bank accounts (trust fund accounts).9. Responding to requests for information from staff, offenders and the general public both verbally and written.
10. Possessing limited contact with offenders.
11. Requiring lifting of mail crates and package up to 25 pounds.

Skills and Abilities
/Management Preferences Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the
Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Documented working knowledge of word processing or spreadsheet programs.

About Nash Correctional Institution Nash Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Nashville, Nash County NC. It houses approximately 800 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to two Correction Enterprises operations located on site:
The Optical Plant and the Print Plant. The Optical Plant manufactures eyeglasses for customers such as Medicaid and the Division of Services for the Blind. The Print Plant is a full-service print shop dedicated to printing services for state government agencies, public school systems, state community colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations.
