The Standards Division is a regulatory agency responsible for enforcing the North Carolina Weights and Measures Act (G.S. 81A), the Gasoline and Oil Inspection Law (G.S. 119), and the LP-Gas Inspection Law (G.S. 119 Article
5).
Duties involve the inspection of vehicle scales used in retail trade; inspection of livestock scales used in the marketing of livestock as required by the Packers and Stockyards Administration of the USDA; inspection of monorail and beam scales; testing of warehouse and portable platform scales; inspection of hopper scales used by DOT; investigation of consumer complaints; and assurance of compliance with the public weigh master law.
Some overnight travel required.
Territory includes the following counties:
Anson, Cabarrus, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Rockingham, Rowan, Scotland, Stanley, Stokes, Surry, Union, Yadkin.
This is a field-based position, and a state vehicle will be provided to complete job tasks. Applicants must live within the following counties:

The selected candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment fitness for duty/drug screening at the department's expense.
Math Test will be administered as part of interview processMust possess a valid NC CDL driver's license and provide a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.

Recruitment Range: $41,206 - $45,000
Ability to communicate both in oral and written form in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with wholesalers, retailers, and other persons engaged in the use and operation of weighting and measuring devices that are being regulated. Prefer experience learning and interpreting laws and regulations.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to do basic math.
Ability to lift and carry approximately 50 pounds.

All Law Enforcement positions, aviation safety-sensitive positions, and positions requiring a Pilot's License or a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) shall be subject to pre-employment drug testing. Selected applicants must obtain a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) medical certificate prior to employment. If a CDL is listed as a preference and the selected applicant has a CDL at the time of hire, then the CDL will become a requirement for the position.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of related work experience in the gas and oil industry or the scales industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
