MEP Preconstruction Manager - National Group Job Description

As the Preconstruction Manager for the National Group, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of large-scale construction projects during the preconstruction phase to ensure successful project initiation; assist in the planning, implementation, and delivery of new business initiatives and preconstruction services relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical area, or type of project; assist in the planning and monitoring of the strategic direction for projects;

and target, develop, and maintain customer and design team relationships.

Preconstruction
  • Deliver preconstruction services in a professional manner with a keen sense of urgency to customer requests. Develop a trusted advisor relationship with Owner, GC, Design Team, and project influencers.
  • Actively track and manage project scope and budget trend. Manage transition between estimating and project management. Establish accurate baseline budget for the project.
  • Implement preconstruction strategies that differentiate Harris and lead to increased opportunities. Work to expand the preconstruction process and best practices across Harris projects.
  • In collaboration with the project execution team identify and document the construction plan. Include prefabrication solutions, fabrication strategies, schedule, sequencing, logistics, work packages, productivity tracking, etc.
  • Direct and drive prefabrication design efforts throughout preconstruction while ensuring constructability.
  • Drive the advancement of tools and IT solutions for the wider construction effort.
  • Work with the project management team to develop budgeting and report‑out tools for communications with clients to demonstrate benefits of delivery method.
  • Work with other teams across Harris to optimize tasks such as cost and schedule trending, managing logs and reports for technical issues, material and equipment procurement, etc.
  • Create and utilize tools and dashboards, automating preconstruction reporting activities.
  • Manage, prepare, and give presentations and deliver reports on preconstruction activities, task progress, and construction team briefings.
Business Development
  • Support business development proposals and pursuits.
  • Develop conceptual estimates, submit proposals. Manage financial aspects of proposals and contracts to protect the company’s interest while maintaining a good relationship with the client.
  • Monitor construction activities and meet with client to ensure project objectives are being met. Provide feedback to the Company construction team and assist in developing corrective action plans to mitigate issues.
  • Develop plan(s) and actively manage customer accounts. Proactively track and manage project sales opportunities. Develop and implement project‑specific sales strategies to maximize Harris’s probability of success.
Organization Support
  • Foster the desired Harris culture.
  • Emphasize a strong safety culture and an environment of collaboration, teamwork, and transparency at all times.
  • Represent the Company in marketing, networking events, project meetings, planning sessions, design meetings, etc.
  • Foster a culture of planning, early engagement, collaboration, and accountability through preconstruction within Harris.
  • Facilitate operational consistency through project setup and planning.
Other Tasks and Duties
  • Other tasks and duties may be necessary due to project specific conditions, and as directed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
  • 8+ years of industry knowledge of mechanical and plumbing.
  • 6+ years of knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.
  • 8+ years of proficient understanding of engineering and technology including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  • 6+ previous success in delivering pre‑construction services.
  • 5+ years of customer service experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction project management.
  • Open to 25%-50% Travel
