Position: Neurointensivist - Open Rank

Position Summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine is seeking a board certified/board eligible (BC/BE) Neurointensivist to join our growing group of 7 Neurointensivists in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. The appointment will be open rank and may be fixed‑term or tenure‑track, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The NSICU currently has 22 beds and is expected to expand to approximately 33 beds.

We offer a state‑of‑the‑art intensive care unit, an ACGME‑accredited fellowship training program in Neurocritical Care, and collaborative research opportunities within UNC’s robust Neurology Clinical Trials Unit. The successful candidate will lead clinical care in the NSICU, lead attending services for a subset of intermediate care neurology inpatients, and provide ICU neurology consults. UNC Medical Center is a tertiary referral center, a Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a Level I trauma center.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • MD or DO degree with board certification or eligibility through the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in Neurology.
  • Completed a neurocritical care fellowship and a board or eligibility in neurocritical care through ABMS/ABPN.
  • Eligibility to obtain a North Carolina medical license.
  • Demonstrated experience in neurocritical care clinical practice.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience
  • Developed research interests with extramural research funding.
  • Envision a career that integrates neurocritical care with additional services such as clinical neurophysiology, vascular neurology, or neurohospitalist services.
  • Commitment to teaching, learning, and mentoring trainees in a tertiary setting.
