Seven of the ten Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
The Technical Design department offers a Bachelor of Science (BS), emphasizing creative thinking, cultural awareness, and communication and technology skills. The program prepares students for careers in the areas of technical design, pattern making, specification technicians, and product development in the manufacturing and private label sectors.
Students gain a global perspective through a blend of academic study and hands-on studio experience. The curriculum fosters the development of creative and business acumen, preparing students for successful careers across a wide range of technical design positions in the fashion and related industries.
Job Description:
The Baker School of Business and Technology seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member for the Technical Design department. Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and business acumen in the technical design field, teaching creative execution in the program's core curriculum.
Candidates should have an advanced background in technical design with strong computer knowledge of Excel, Illustrator, Adobe, PLM systems, and 3D design systems (Accumark, Browzwear, CLO), including pattern and fit correction skills. The ideal candidate will have experience as a head technical designer in womenswear with the ability to adapt technical expertise to include menswear, and children swear.
Primary responsibilities include delivering engaging lectures and demonstrations that promote active learning and encourage creative thinking. The new faculty member will be expected to develop and expand the curriculum to develop and create detailed, accurate technical packages and graded specs in the areas of womens, mens, and childrens sportswear, grading, marking, fitting and pattern corrections.
Candidates must test out using Accumark to make a pant, blouse and jacket pattern and adjust fit corrections using Browzwear.
Additional responsibilities include advising students, mentoring, facilitating internships, alumni engagement, department meetings, and participating in industry functions. The new faculty member will serve on department, school, and college-wide committees, support accreditation, and participate in administrative activities as required.
