In this vital role, you’ll help ensure that our students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn every day. As a key member of the KIPP NC Team and Family, you’ll serve as the trusted health advocate on campus, delivering high‑quality care with empathy, expertise, and respect. You’ll work in close partnership with families, educators, and community health providers to support the unique health needs of every student so that each one can thrive, both in school and beyond.
Key Responsibilities- Work to remove, modify, or reduce health‑related barriers to learning
- Provide well‑student care, health care, first aid, immunizations, and assistance to students at their school; create a comforting and nurturing environment for ill students
- Provide daily, individual care to students, including managing daily medications required by students, administering doctor‑prescribed medications to students, and helping students with physical disabilities
- Advise the Director of School Operations and other school staff as needed regarding initiatives, processes, and systems necessary to ensure a healthy school community
- Build emergency preparedness plans and train all staff on them to ensure school‑wide readiness for health emergencies
- Communicate daily with families around student wellness and health concerns
- Participate in necessary student health events that may occur on non‑school days, e.g., New Student Registration
- Perform screenings for scoliosis, vision, hearing, height, weight, and/or other conditions and make referrals and follow‑up
- Complete, update, and maintain student records (accident reports, health records), and submit reports; efficiently manage the systems for student health paperwork
- Ensure 100% collection of student health documentation for incoming new students
- Maintain physical student health files and ensure they are organized and up‑to‑date
- Audit student health files annually
- Transfer all health materials and necessary information for student transfers between campuses
- Maintain the security of confidential information
- Collect and maintain student incident forms, ensuring that all applicable parties have documented all pertinent details
- Collaborate with school staff to create and maintain wellness programming to support healthy opportunities for students
- Maintain all mandated COVID protocols and hold staff and students accountable to those health protocols
- Deep commitment to the mission of KIPP NC and belief in the potential of all our students
- Commitment to improving the lives of kids from marginalized communities
- Associate’s degree in Nursing
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of North Carolina
- CPR certification
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment
- Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build relationships across teams
- Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work
- Previous school nursing experience
- Strong preference for candidates with prior experience in a charter or independent school environment
- Hours are M, Th, & F 7:30 am – 3:30 pm;
