Instructor, Welding (Full-Time | 9-Month Faculty)

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) seeks a student-centered, innovative, and collaborative Instructor of Welding to join our full-time faculty. This nine-month faculty position provides high-quality classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction that prepares students for successful careers in welding and related industries.

The successful candidate will engage students through practical, industry-relevant instruction using current welding processes, equipment, technology, and safety practices while supporting skill attainment, credential completion, workforce readiness, and student success.

Under the supervision of the Department Head of Engineering, Horticulture & Building Construction Technology, the Instructor teaches assigned welding courses in classroom and laboratory environments in accordance with North Carolina Community College System standards, applicable accreditation requirements, and College policies.

• Teach assigned welding courses using effective classroom and hands-on laboratory instructional strategies that promote student engagement and learning.
• Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, laboratory activities, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with established course learning outcomes.
• Demonstrate appropriate welding processes, techniques, equipment operation, and industry practices.
• Utilize instructional technology and effective teaching practices to enhance student learning.
• Maintain current knowledge of welding processes, equipment, industry standards, technology, and workforce expectations.

• Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to students as assigned.
• Maintain regular office hours and provide timely communication and feedback.
• Monitor student progress and connect students with appropriate College resources.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and instructional records in accordance with College policies.
• Support students in developing the technical skills, professionalism, and workplace behaviors needed for successful employment.

• Participate in curriculum development, review, and continuous improvement.
• Assess student learning outcomes and use assessment results to improve instruction.
• Assist with program planning, assessment, accreditation/compliance activities, and academic quality initiatives.
• Maintain course content consistent with current industry standards, technologies, and workforce expectations.

• Ensure safe operation of welding laboratories and instructional equipment.
• Enforce laboratory safety procedures, proper equipment operation, and required personal protective equipment.
• Assist with laboratory organization, equipment maintenance, inventory, consumables, and instructional materials.
• Identify and report equipment repair, replacement, maintenance, supply, and safety needs.
• Promote safe handling and storage of welding materials, compressed gases, equipment, and related supplies.

• Participate in departmental, divisional, and College committees.
• Attend faculty meetings, commencement, professional development activities, and College events.
• Participate in student recruitment, retention, outreach, and program promotion activities.
