Archery Instructor- Temp

Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources is seeking a confident and experienced instructor to serve as an Archery Instructor at Bond Park. This position supports the delivery of Cary’s year-round archery programs, including the Cary JOAD team, Cary Archery Club, introductory archery classes, senior archery classes, and other Outdoor Recreation programs.

The Archery Instructor works with participants of varying ages and skill levels to create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for learning and skill development. The ideal candidate has experience teaching or coaching in the field of archery, enjoys helping others improve, and is comfortable working with both youth and adults. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Program Supervisor – Outdoor Recreation.

Work schedules include afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with extended hours during warmer seasons.

This is a part-time, non-benefit, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Weekend and holiday work will be required.

• Leads archery lessons and practices for individuals and groups.
• Demonstrates and reinforces proper archery technique, safety procedures, and range etiquette.
• Observes participants and provides coaching and feedback to support skill progression.
• Prepares, maintains, and breaks down archery ranges and equipment for programs.
• Assists with archery clinics, special events, and other Outdoor Recreation programs and activities.
• Performs other job-related tasks as required.

• Knowledge of fundamental archery skills.
• Knowledge in the safe operation of an archery range.
• Knowledge of basic coaching principles and youth skills development.

• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to interact effectively with participants, peers, and the public.

• The ability to teach and coach archery skills to individuals and groups with varying ages, abilities, and experience levels.
• The ability to prepare and maintain the archery range and equipment for lessons and programs.
• The ability to work outside in typical weather conditions, including summer heat and rain.
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• The ability to follow program area policies, procedures, and services.

Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED AND
must have some experience teaching or coaching archery programs. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:

• Some experience teaching or coaching youth ages 6–17.
• Some experience coaching an archery team or competitive archery program.
• USA Archery L2, National Field Archery Association, or equivalent instructor certification.

Work requires the employee to work outside in variable weather and site conditions, including working  employee must be able to climb, walk unassisted, move about freely, and carry moderately heavy items such as equipment and water coolers. An employee must be able to hear and talk to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.

Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment
