Even with all of our technology and advanced aircraft, mission success often depends on the weather. As a weather officer in the Air National Guard, you’ll decide where you serve and receive the expert training to become a master at analyzing weather conditions. You’ll prepare forecasts, issue weather warnings and provide weather data to pilots and planners. You’ll also operate a weather radar console and high-frequency pilot-to-metro radio while analyzing weather data for information on cloud formations, visibility, winds, atmospheric pressure and other weather parameters that our aircrews must be aware of to successfully complete the mission.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Lead weather units and elements.
- Conduct and direct meteorically space weather and geophysical research efforts.
- Provide technical meteorological service.
- Support Air Force, Army, Special Ops and joint missions.
- Up to 30 days of vacation with pay each year

- Have an undergraduate academic specialization in meteorology, atmospheric science or a related field with a successful completion of the Basic Meteorology Program. Atmospheric science degree programs must meet the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) basic instruction package for meteorologists.
- Completion of a current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Completion of Officer Training School (OTS), Air Force Academy (AFA) or Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC)
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 39
