Purpose OfThe Role
The Project Engineer supports the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering, construction, and facility‑improvement projects across McGill. This role ensures that capital initiatives, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure improvements are completed safely, efficiently, within scope, and on budget. The Project Engineer provides technical expertise that strengthens operational performance, creates additional capacity, and supports long‑term site sustainability.

Your work directly supports the performance of our composting operations by improving equipment uptime, optimizing systems, and advancing infrastructure that enables sustainable growth.
You collaborate with operations, maintenance, environmental compliance, and vendors to ensure projects run smoothly and deliver meaningful improvements to plant performance and environmental stewardship.
Position SummaryThe Project Engineer supports capital projects, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure improvements across McGill facilities. This role provides hands‑on technical expertise, coordinates project activities with cross‑functional teams, and ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational needs. By improving systems, equipment reliability, and site performance, the Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting McGill’s mission of safe, sustainable, and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Management- Oversees the implementation of projects from concept through validation.
- Developing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Managing timelines, deliverables, and contractor work to ensure projects stay on track.
- Preparing bid documents and supporting contractor/vendor selection.
- Maintaining documentation, reporting on project status, and ensuring alignment with stakeholders.
- Contribute to component, sub-system, and system level design activities.
- Performing engineering analyses, calculations, and technical evaluations.
- Completing time studies and capacity/throughput analysis.
- Creating or reviewing drawings, technical specs, and process flow diagrams.
- Supporting troubleshooting efforts for equipment and process issues.
- Participating in commissioning and startup procedures for new equipment or systems.
- Partnering with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Procurement teams.
- Coordinating project activities across multiple facilities.
- Providing technical guidance to site leaders and maintenance teams.
- Ensuring all project work adheres to EH&S requirements, regulatory standards, Standard Operating Procedures, and facility permits.
- Supporting permitting efforts, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Identifying hazards, addressing deficiencies, and promoting safety-first execution.
- Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time by management.
