Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and commissioning in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a talented Commissioning Lead, Mechanical to join our dedicated team at our office located in Cary, North Carolina, or near our project site in Houston, Texas.

In this role, you will perform mission‑critical facilities commissioning‑based services with a primary focus on standalone commissioning. You will also consult on and manage commissioning projects as defined in project agreements with IPS’ clients, perform site auditing, quality reviews, and develop business opportunities with a primary focus on commissioning and related consulting.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide client management functions.
  • Provide working knowledge in the delivery of technical projects in these areas.
  • Provide consulting‑based services in areas of expertise.
  • Manage project teams delivering primarily standalone commissioning.
  • Equipment pre‑start‑up and start‑up procedures; development of test scripts, checklists, and comprehensive commissioning documentation.
  • Write comprehensive reports which include recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, list of deficiencies, equipment operation, reports (air flow, heat transfer, etc.), and manuals.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, and equipment submittals for commissioning.
  • Develop and administer functional tests for various building MEP systems such as fire alarm and control systems, HVAC, chillers, and CRAC units.
  • Integrated system testing; compilation of all testing procedure results, and commission plan preparation.
  • Support, train, mentor, and guide Commissioning Consultants and overall department staff.
  • Perform commissioning‑related audits of client facilities and quality systems.
  • Assume Project Management/Project Executive roles as requested to meet IPS workload demands.
  • Remain active in professional organizations and strive for industry recognition.
  • Provide training and seminar presentations to the industry.
  • Network at professional functions and develop project leads and opportunities through industry contacts.
  • Support strategic BD activities through networking.
  • Generate and perform commissioning deliverable activities, audits, and other related services to meet project requirements and personal billability goals.
  • Work with new and existing clients to initiate projects following current industry practices.
  • Perform strategic and master planning activities to assure projects are initiated/started "on the right foot".
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field is required, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in the Mechanical/HVAC field.
  • Demonstrated expertise by industry in start‑up, QA/QC, and commissioning.
  • Experience with commissioning and related activities and processes.
  • Detailed experience in a commissioning discipline with knowledge of pharmaceutical.
  • Understanding of Design/Build/Commission/Validate processes and how they relate to regulatory requirements and cGMP regulations within the EU and US FDA.
  • Familiarity with LEED commissioning requirements.
  • Previous Data Center/Mission Critical experience.
  • Experience with leading CxA projects.
  • Mechanical equipment testing experience in a critical facilities or data center environment.
  • Experience with Level 1‑5 commissioning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A/E experience working in complex facilities or mission‑critical projects.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
Travel
  • This position will have up to 100% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
  • Position may be assigned to the client site for an extended period.
