Position Title:
Building Automation Project Manager
Location:
Columbus, Ohio
The client is seeking an experienced Building Automation Project Manager to lead and deliver BAS/DDC projects across commercial and institutional environments. This role is responsible for managing projects from initial turnover through execution, commissioning, and closeout, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in HVAC controls and building automation systems, with the ability to coordinate across engineering, field teams, subcontractors, and customers. This role requires both technical expertise and strong project leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities- Project Planning & Execution – Organize and manage BAS projects from kickoff through completion; review project documentation, define scope, establish timelines, and allocate resources; coordinate with engineering, programming, and operations teams; manage multiple projects simultaneously across new construction, retrofit, and upgrade work.
- Subcontractor & Vendor Management – Review subcontractor bids, participate in selection; prepare and maintain agreements; direct subcontractors with scope, schedules, and expectations; ensure work meets specifications and quality.
- Procurement & Material Coordination – Process material requisitions; coordinate with suppliers and panel builders; track deliveries and align with milestones; manage storage and site logistics.
- Project Financial Management – Manage budgets, cost tracking, forecasting; support accurate billing; review labor and cost reports; implement corrective actions; support change order management.
- Communication & Coordination – Primary point of contact; maintain regular communication; conduct site visits; provide progress updates; ensure stakeholder alignment.
- Project Closeout – Coordinate startup and commissioning; ensure documentation; facilitate owner training and turnover; ensure client satisfaction.
- Quality & Compliance – Ensure safety, codes, installation, commissioning standards; verify deliverables; communicate corrective actions.
- 3+ years managing BAS/DDC or HVAC controls projects.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC mechanical and building automation systems.
- Experience in new construction and retrofit.
- Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, control sequences.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Associate degree or higher in Engineering or related field.
- Hands‑on experience with DDC systems, installation, commissioning.
- Experience with BACnet-based or open protocol BAS platforms.
- Background with systems integrators or controls contractors.
- Strong project management and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage project portfolios (approx. $800K+ total value).
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to travel locally to project sites in the Columbus area as needed.
