Job Summary For Sr. Engineering Technician
- Serves as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor within multidisciplinary teams.
- Uses advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges in a specific engineering discipline (primarily civil).
- Develops innovative engineering solutions for nuclear generation and critical infrastructure projects.
- Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., Civil3D, Microstation, Bentley Openplan Modeler, CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation and project deliverables.
- Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
- Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards.
- Reviews project requirements and deliverables for format, content, quality, and compliance with codes and standards.
- Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections.
- Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records.
- Applies engineering principles and design practices to complex technical assignments.
- Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
- Reviews and coordinates project deliverables, ensuring alignment and accuracy.
- May lead or participate in continuous process improvement and change management initiatives.
- Coordinates with other design groups and supports field activities as required.
- Responsible for clear communication of project requirements, progress, and schedules.
- Assists in identifying key client interests and drivers, communicates these to project teams, and helps develop strategies to address them.
- Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel.
- Recognized as an expert in one or more technical areas, may be assigned special projects or training classes.
- May oversee or participate in presentations, production design, and monitoring of production to ensure schedule and budget adherence.
- Civil3D, Microstation, and Bentley Openplan Modeler experience required.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology required;
Bachelor’s preferred. - Minimum 11 years related work experience.
- Must pass pre‑employment screening and satisfy nuclear program requirements (including citizenship per 10 CFR 810).
- Must be located within 50 miles of Black & Veatch offices in Overland Park, KS;
Cary, NC;
Chattanooga, TN;
Ann Arbor, MI; or Houston, TX. Onsite daily.
