Job Purpose

The Borg Warner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting‑edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

The Manufacturing, Automation, and Controls Technician supports thermal assembly lines and other production areas, focusing on improving quality, process flow, and automation. This role bridges engineering resources and the production floor, implementing safety, quality, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering and production, assisting with the implementation of safety, quality, and process improvements
  • Coordinate with manufacturing managers, engineers, vendors, and customers to ensure satisfaction and effective communication
  • Facilitate complex department projects, including planning, scheduling, training, implementation, and documentation of solutions
  • Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues on assembly lines and automation equipment
  • Assist in the design, development, and programming of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human‑Machine Interfaces), and SCADA systems under engineering guidance.
  • Support commissioning, debugging, and troubleshooting of automation equipment and control systems.
  • Work with sensors, actuators, motors, and vision systems for process automation
  • Assist with installation and upgrades of production equipment, collaborating with equipment suppliers and contractors
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD software
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies
  • Document system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and training materials
  • Provide technical support for equipment maintenance and modifications
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and learn new automation technologies
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and machine repairs as needed
  • Support pre‑production and PPAP assembly builds, procurement, and installation of assembly lines and equipment
  • Recommend and implement improvements to manufacturing processes and tooling
  • Inspect machined parts using indicators, micrometers, calipers, and related devices for accuracy
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned
What We’re Looking For
  • Associate engineering degree from an accredited technical program is required
  • Courses or vocational training in electronics, controls, or engineering are a plus
  • 3+ years of experience on a manufacturing floor working with technical issues and material flow preferred
  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, etc.)
  • Familiarity with electrical circuits, control panel design, and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), robotics (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and mechatronic systems is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical schematics, and engineering drawings
  • Proficiency with computers and common software (Windows, MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
  • Strong problem‑solving, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and grow in automation and controls
  • Physical and Environmental Requirements
    • Standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers to handle or feel may be required
    • May need to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
    • May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, and occasional adverse weather conditions
