Position Overview
As a Senior Sustainability Engineer, you will be a key member of the Sustainability Life Sciences North America team with responsibility for management of key projects in response to Jacobs and our Client's sustainability goals (environmental, social and governance). You will aid the management team in researching and implementing best‑in‑class sustainability initiatives and report directly to the Sustainability Director for Life Sciences in North America.
KeyAccountabilities
- Manage sustainability projects for the Life Science North America team, ensuring successful delivery of all related sustainability goals and targets.
- Provide guidance and clear delegation of tasks to junior team members.
- Engage with the client, design and construction teams to embed sustainability objectives in the project.
- Track and report relevant project sustainability objectives and prepare deliverables as per the project program.
- Facilitate guidance for project teams regarding certification processes (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, WELL).
- Engage in business development opportunities to build a pipeline of sustainability projects and assist the Sustainability Department Manager and European Director.
- Research future sustainability legislation and green building rating systems to keep clients and the wider Jacobs team informed of upcoming changes or opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Life Sciences team on the research and preparation of white papers and thought pieces.
- Bachelor’s in engineering or equivalent from an accredited program;
Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering preferred, with technical architectural focus also acceptable. - Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Sustainable Buildings Certification programs and project delivery.
- Experience in complex projects (life sciences or manufacturing sectors preferred).
- Demonstrated overall experience in project design and delivery at an Engineering or Architectural organization.
- Detailed knowledge of sustainability and integrated design process.
- Knowledge of decarbonization, energy efficiency, day lighting, indoor air quality, materials assessment, stormwater management, occupant comfort, wellness and other common sustainable design strategies.
- Active LEED Accredited Professional qualification or equivalent green building accreditation.
- Understanding of software and tools for energy modeling and embodied carbon calculations.
- Ability to conduct Life Cycle Assessments.
- Working knowledge of sustainability aspects and challenges related to decarbonization, energy and water savings, sustainable materials, etc.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills for effective communication with all levels internally and externally.
- Ability to convey information through written and graphic communication.
- Project experience with energy modeling, daylight modeling, embodied carbon modeling.
- Experience creating and working with client or geographic specific design standards.
- Additional sustainability or energy‑centric credentials (e.g., BEMP, WELL AP, Envision SP) and related experience on projects.
- Software experience with Revit, Autocad, Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Climate Studio.
