The OpportunityAs a Staff Substation Structural Engineer, you will:
- Lead structural design engineering and analysis on substation scopes.
- Collect and assimilate data for engineering work, performing research and preparing calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards.
- Develop recommendations for equipment and materials, and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements.
- Provide guidance to engineering team members and maintain positive client relations through effective communication.
- Act as a technical specialist or lead, applying advanced engineering techniques with minimal supervision.
- Expand knowledge and skill set, and may start to explore other disciplines or functional areas.

Key Responsibilities- Execute structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for support structures and foundations for substation equipment and other energy infrastructure.
- Lead structural efforts on Engineering Services and EPC substation projects.
- Generate project‑specific specifications and assist with procurement process.
- Supervise structural engineers in the US and overseas, and work with structural technicians to prepare drawings and specifications.
- Perform construction‑phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing contractor submittals.
- Perform project administrative tasks, including design fee estimates, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, managing project changes, and implementing Black & Veatch Quality Control requirements.
- Coordinate work with other discipline engineers and provide guidance on design guides, standards, and B&V policies.
- Support continuous improvement and guidance for others.
- Implement resource management strategy for a small group.
- Active PE License.
- Intermediate knowledge of structural engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
- Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or equivalent.
- Basic foundation design experience using software such as LPile, RISA Foundation, SP‑Mats, etc.
- Experience performing structural connection and miscellaneous calculations using MS Excel and/or Mathcad.
- Strong written communications, priority setting, planning, delegation, conflict management, and team building.
- Experience with the design of utility‑scale electrical substations, energy, renewables, or similar fields (not required).
- Structural design of electrical substation steel structures and their foundations (not required).
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records) as permitted by law.
- Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries.
