As a Staff Substation Structural Engineer, you will:

• Lead structural design engineering and analysis on substation scopes.
• Collect and assimilate data for engineering work, performing research and preparing calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards.
• Develop recommendations for equipment and materials, and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements.
• Provide guidance to engineering team members and maintain positive client relations through effective communication.
• Act as a technical specialist or lead, applying advanced engineering techniques with minimal supervision.
• Expand knowledge and skill set, and may start to explore other disciplines or functional areas.

• Execute structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for support structures and foundations for substation equipment and other energy infrastructure.
• Lead structural efforts on Engineering Services and EPC substation projects.
• Generate project‑specific specifications and assist with procurement process.
• Supervise structural engineers in the US and overseas, and work with structural technicians to prepare drawings and specifications.
• Perform construction‑phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing contractor submittals.
• Perform project administrative tasks, including design fee estimates, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, managing project changes, and implementing Black & Veatch Quality Control requirements.
• Coordinate work with other discipline engineers and provide guidance on design guides, standards, and B&V policies.
• Support continuous improvement and guidance for others.
• Implement resource management strategy for a small group.

• Active PE License.
• Intermediate knowledge of structural engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
• Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or equivalent.
• Basic foundation design experience using software such as LPile, RISA Foundation, SP‑Mats, etc.
• Experience performing structural connection and miscellaneous calculations using MS Excel and/or Mathcad.
• Strong written communications, priority setting, planning, delegation, conflict management, and team building.
• Experience with the design of utility‑scale electrical substations, energy, renewables, or similar fields (not required).
• Structural design of electrical substation steel structures and their foundations (not required).

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
• Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records) as permitted by law.
• Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries.
