Technical Production Coordinator
Cary's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources department is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our Technical Production Operations team!
This position plans, executes, and leads technical production work in support of events and operations for Cary. The Production Coordinator will be responsible for leading the coordination of video, lighting, or audio support for assigned venues and events depending on area of specialty. The position requires general knowledge in all areas of Entertainment Lighting, Audio, and Video with the ability to learn and embrace new skills.
This position frequently serves in a management role at events, overseeing all areas of technical production, and frequently serves as an equipment operator. Work includes considerable contact with clients ranging from Cary citizens to Cary staff.
This position regularly supervises the work of contracted technicians and contracted production companies. Work will be performed under an assigned supervisor on the Technical Operations team depending on specialty fit.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $65,852.80-$76,627.20
Typical Tasks- Assists in ensuring that all venues have a functioning entertainment system including maintaining appropriate equipment inventory and creating equipment control systems as well as developing necessary documentation for assigned systems and venues.
- Maintains audio, video, and lighting production equipment and supplies, performing maintenance duties, and leading contractors in the same.
- Advances shows with internal/external clients and artists, reviewing tech riders, artist contracts, as well as assisting clients with event planning when necessary.
- Sets schedules for production support of events and plans full-time and contractor staffing based on available resources for assigned events.
- Collaborates with event planners to meet their needs with available resources.
- Documents plans for meeting event production needs through Cary systems while maintaining communication with various stakeholders.
- Collaborates with Production Team to ensure that all events are staffed with Cary Staff and contractors.
- Collaborates with peers, employees, and contractors in the successful execution of events.
- Sets up, configures, operates, and strikes production equipment at assigned venues and events as needed, including corporate style meetings, Council events, theatrical drama and dance, live music concerts, stand-up comedy, themed environments, etc.
- Opens and closes Cary venues as required.
- Assists with documenting procedures in operation of applicable technical systems at assigned venues.
- Supports instruction and training of staff and contractors in applicable technical systems and on new techniques or newly acquired equipment.
- Enforces safety protocols and ensures that all work is performed in accordance with applicable fire codes, OSHA, and Cary Safety Standards and Policies.
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Skills and Abilities
Specialized Knowledge in:
- Lighting Design and the utilization of entertainment and architectural lighting control systems by Electronic Theater Controls, sACN networks, DMX.
- Operation, setup, and repair of conventional, moving head, and LED fixtures by Electronic Theater Controls, Chauvet, Robe, Elation, Aryton, High End Systems, and others.
- Computer software for lighting including Vectorworks Spotlight, and Light wright as well as console software for lighting, including console remotes, iOS remote apps, OSC, etc.
OR
- Audio and Sound Design and the utilization of entertainment and commercial audio equipment and control systems including Allen and Heath processing systems, Dante networks, and various amplification and speaker systems.
- Operation, setup, and repair of all kinds of audio equipment by Shure, Allen and Heath, Electrovoice, Danley Sound Labs, Yamaha, DPA, Telefunken, Powersoft, and others.
- Computer software for audio, including dLive Director, Dante Controller, Qlab, Wireless Workbench, and amplifier configuration tools, as well as console software for audio, including console remotes, iOS remote apps, etc.
Comprehensive Knowledge of:
- All aspects of technical theatre and production management (proper theatrical rigging practices, handling of hard and soft scenic goods, mechanical physics, fundamental electricity, modern construction practices and materials, stage crafts including rigging, lighting, carpentry, video and sound equipment) with a specialty in either Entertainment Lighting or Audio, and secondary skills in Audio, Video, and Lighting.
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety protocol of production work.
General Knowledge of:
- Techniques, methods and procedures of theater, dance, music and concert productions and presentations including stage, set, sound design and implementation, stage management, computerized sound systems, and production IT networking and infrastructure.
